 Traditions
    A Uniquely Jewish Alzheimer's &
    Dementia Program

The Reutlinger Community for Jewish Living's Traditions Program provides a nurturing and safe environment for those long-term and respite care residents with Alzheimer's disease.  Our goals are to improve each resident's quality of life by caring for each as an individual with different needs and interests.  The Traditions Program will foster independence and enhance personal experience within a Jewish community environment.  In this stimulating home-like atmosphere, each resident will experience a sense of belonging.

Philosophy:

The Reutlinger Community for Jewish Living's Traditions Program provides a nurturing and safe environment for those long-term and respite care residents with Alzheimer's disease.  Our goals are to improve each resident's quality of life by caring for each as an individual with different needs and interests.  The Traditions Program will foster independence and enhance personal experience within a Jewish community environment.  In this stimulating home-like atmosphere, each resident will experience a sense of belonging.

Resident Profile:

The Traditions program accepts early to middle stage Alzheimer’s residents who may exhibit some of the following, but not limited to: symptoms of memory loss, confusion, restlessness, inability to sleep at night, changes in mood and personality, a decline in judgement, intellectual, and social functioning, and issues surrounding incontinence. Residents must be ambulatory and able to be safely managed in this environment.

Environment:

The physical environment is unique to the Traditions Program.  The interactive art installations consist of various tactile objects, which stimulate the resident’s sensory and memory centers through touch and sight.

Programs:

Traditions offers a supervised daily schedule of mentally and physically challenging activities specifically tailored for the Alzheimer’s population. Activities include cognitive and sensory stimulation, along with cooking classes, Jewish cultural enhancement, reminiscence awareness, daily exercise and strength training, an art program and night owl activities. Residents can also participate in supervised weekly outings to local movies, cultural events, parks, restaurants, and shopping if their condition allows.

Religious/Cultural Events:

The Reutlinger Community for Jeiwsh Living features an on-site synagogue, staff Rabbi, and "RCJL – TV" for closed circuit viewing of religious services. Our programs and environment reflect the rich dedication to the Jewish heritage within a Jewish community environment. Residents' families are encouraged to attend Friday afternoon and Saturday morning Sabbath Services, as well as festive holiday events.

Staff:

Traditions is proud of our 24-hour staff consisting of Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, Nurse Assistance, Program Coordinators, Social Workers and Activity Therapists. Our Staff members are well educated and highly trained in the Alzheimer’s disease process and the care and management of the Alzheimer’s resident. Ongoing training and education is provided.

Exercise:

Two times each day Traditions' residents will participate in a stimulating selection of exercise classes designed to strengthen muscles and joints, while enhancing motor skills. Selections include Happy Feet, Sittercise, walking tracks, a general par course, and an outdoor courtyard.

Family Services:

Family members of Traditions residents are encouraged to take advantage of the wide variety of weekly meetings and support groups. Families are also encouraged to participate in Care Conferences and social gatherings.

Dining:

Three family-style kosher meals are served daily along with 24-hour snacks and beverages. Families are invited to dinner one evening per week and for lox and bagels at Sunday brunch.

Health Care Services:

The Reutlinger Community for Jewish Livings’ on-site Medical Clinic and Physical Therapy Center is available to residents, their families, and the community. The center is staffed with medical consultants and physical and occupational therapy staff, who are available to provide evaluation and care for medical concerns. If eligible, families may choose the option of transferring the resident to the Reutlinger Community for Jewish Living Skilled Nursing Facility on a space available basis during the later stages of the Alzheimer’s dementia disease.

 Respite Care:

The Respite Program is designed to give the primary caregiver relief from full-time responsibility. This individual may stay overnight or on a short-term basis. The Respite Guest is provided with the same amenities, services, and programs offered to long-term residents.

Note: Respite guests are accepted on a space available basis.
